But unlike every other job, there is typically no educational or vocational preparation for the position. Instead, we are faced with the challenge of trying to do what is truly best for our children, often in the midst of an unfamiliar dilemma or experience. There cannot be one "method" of parenting, because every child holds a different experience, so what may have worked for us as kids, or for our other children, may not always be suitable for the next child. This job therefore requires an ability to learn, to adjust, to infer, to tolerate, to decide, and to ask for help. Essentially, the very same skills that we want our children to learn.
