Clutch Athlete is an innovative and comprehensive program of mindset development for athletic populations. Based off of an empirical conceptualization and measurement of mental toughness, the program is designed to educate athletes on the mental demands of high performance, evaluate/identify their existing level of mental toughness, and develop stronger levels of mental toughness by utilizing the skills and drills designed specifically to correspond with each athlete’s individual profile.
The key to elite athletic performance is not merely an athlete’s ability to perform a certain task, but to be able to perform it at the highest possible level when it matters most. In other words, “can you generate your best performance when it is most important for you to do so?” For many athletes, this typically is required during a championship event, a last second situation, or a “try-out” for a coveted spot. These high-pressure situations provide athletes with the rare opportunity to garner victory, respect, accolade, accomplishment, and esteem. However, the intensity of these situations also creates the risk of failure, exposure, embarrassment, and the proverbial “choking." As such, the notion of being labeled “clutch” is one that each athlete must strive for. It is one’s ability to perform the best when it counts the most. This unique combination of physical and mental acuity grows more difficult as pressure intensifies. And for today’s athlete, the pressure to perform has never been greater. And despite the fact that most will attest to the importance/necessity of mental toughness in sport, it has remained extremely challenging to attain…until now.
Clutch Athlete was developed to offer athletes of all sports and levels the opportunity to learn more about themselves and how to perform better under pressure. Mental toughness is not a fixed trait. It can be trained. However, it is easy for some, and much more difficult for others. Because of this, Clutch Athlete offers a scientifically-based model of mental toughness assessment and training which exposes each athlete to simulated competitive adversity, and utilizes mental and physiological conditioning to improve their individualized response to such pressure.
